As 2020 draws to a close, we wanted to look back at some of the highlights on our blog over the past year.
Whether it was course launches, testimonials, news or just useful articles to help you make decisions about your educational future, we’ve had a busy year on the Essex Online blog. Here are some of the most popular posts.
Achievements and accreditations
Unsurprisingly, lots of people wanted to hear about our achievements in 2020. Firstly, we were once again the highest-rated online-only institution according to the National Student Survey 2020.
We were also excited to receive two new accreditations this year. Firstly, right at the start of the year, our MBA received accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA). This highly prestigious accreditation is held by just 2% of the world’s business schools, and our MBA is one of very few 100% online MBAs to receive accreditation.
And in June, our BSc (Hons) Psychology was accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). This is the global standard for psychology courses and provides graduates who meet a certain standard with Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the BPS: the first step towards a career as a qualified psychologist.
Our virtual graduation celebration 2020
There’s no surprise that our first ever virtual graduation celebration made the cut. Held back in August, this online experience wasn’t meant to replace our campus graduation, which we are still hopeful that we will be able to plan for next year. Instead, it served as an opportunity for our students and staff to celebrate their achievement within their graduation year.
Course and department launches
One fantastic achievement from 2020 was the launch of a new academic department: computing. Our MSc Computer Science and MSc Cyber Security programmes had their first intakes in September.
We also launched new postgraduate courses in Global Digital Marketing and International Human Resource Management.
Our brilliant students
This year we launched our Student Ambassador programme, allowing current Essex Online students to share their unique insights with prospective students through 1-2-1 chats, virtual events and regular blog posts.
We also had the opportunity to hear from various graduates and students through their testimonials. The most-viewed testimonial of the year was Richard Harpin’s video interview about studying an online Master of Public Health.
Our advice and tips
Our how to choose your course blog provides a comprehensive overview of how to determine which of the many programmes out there is right for you. Similarly, 9 tips to help you choose an online university provides advice on checking that a particular online institution is suitable for what you’re looking for.
Many of our students choose to study part-time around a full-time job, so this blog provides some important tips on how to make this work. For those already studying, or about to start, this popular blog post shares some websites that could be useful to get the most out of your studying. And we also demystified various terms within higher education by explaining what IELTS, LLM and NSS all stand for, among others.
We also published a number of blog posts that were applicable to those studying or considering specific courses, such as this one focusing on what CertHEs are, and this one exploring our health department.
This is just a small snapshot of our regular blog, so feel free to take a look through our archive to see if there are any other blog posts not mentioned here that can help you decide on a course, improve your career or get inspired!
