Graduation 2015: What an amazing day!
60+ students graduated in the class of 2015. Many travelled from far and wide (as far as Switzerland for some!) and made the journey to the Colchester campus at the University of Essex to experience their hard-earned graduation day.
The sun made a valiant effort to shine for the class of 2015 and the morning was a flurry of caps, gowns and family photos. At 10 a.m. everyone took their seats in The Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall for the serious business of the graduation ceremony and after a number of speeches and presentations, our online students took to the stage and received their awards.
After the ceremony it was off to the University of Essex Online marquee for a well-deserved glass of champagne and canapés. The afternoon was rounded off with the certificate presentations and a short speech by David Dixon, Academic Director.
As our students make their way home, we hope that they take the time to reflect and congratulate themselves on their success. Graduation day is a very special milestone in a person’s life; it’s a way of celebrating an individual’s hard work and dedication while also recognising and acknowledging the support received from friends, family and classmates.
Learning online requires a lot of self-sacrifice and perseverance, and our graduates have managed to fit in education around families, full- or part-time work and many other commitments.
Every single person at graduation day had a unique, and sometimes moving, story about their own personal education journey. Many happy tears were shed.
So after all the stress and flurry of graduation day, what’s next for our students? Anything! They can choose to continue studying, start applying for their dream job or just look for their next personal challenge.
There’s more…
This year also saw prizes awarded to two very deserving students: Davina Atterbury is the deserving winner of the Inspirational Student of the Year award, and Emma Blaker takes home the prize for Career Student of the Year.
We’ll be publishing a special feature on these two outstanding students soon, so follow us on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn to find out more.
