University of Essex Online today announces the launch of an LLM International Trade and Commercial Law, an advanced qualification developed in collaboration with industry and subject experts.
Appealing to both UK and international students, this new course creates a natural postgraduate progression route from the online education institution’s already-established LLB (Hons) Law course. Along with law graduates, this programme is also suitable for business students and legal and business professionals. It will enable students to study areas such as international competition law, commercial dispute resolution and private law as well as intellectual property law, the law of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the international sale of goods, international carriage of goods and many more subjects.
Dr Naila Anwar, Head of Law for University of Essex Online, said: “The success of the WTO since its establishment in 1995 attracted some of the world’s largest traders such as China (in 2001) and Russia (in 2012). The growing membership of the WTO means growth in global trade (accounting for 98 per cent of global trade). The growth of global trade means increasing demand for individuals with specialist skills and in-depth knowledge in the areas of trade and commerce. The online LLM in International Trade and Commercial Law has been developed to meet this global/ national and international demand for experts in these areas of law.
I am really delighted to announce the launch of our new LLM International Trade and Commercial Law. We already have a thriving student body progressing through our existing LLB (Hons) course, and we hope to help even more students to forge their way forward into the legal profession with the addition of this postgraduate course. We have worked hard to create an internationally-relevant and thought-provoking syllabus for our learners, and we can’t wait to tutor our first class.”
Graduates will gain the skills and knowledge to enhance their career prospects and prepare them for a high-level career in an international law firm, multinational company, governmental organisation, non-governmental organisation, insurance company, investment company, a company/business involved in exports and imports, or a research institution. This valuable qualification will help students to develop a wealth of transferable skills opening up opportunities in industries, companies, research/higher education institutions and businesses around the world.
David Dixon, Academic Director for University of Essex Online said: “This exciting new addition to the suite of postgraduate programmes offered by University of Essex Online will give our students the opportunity to gain an internationally-recognised and well-regarded qualification. We are looking forward to welcoming our current undergraduate students and new students onto the course.”
The first intake for the LLM will be in January 2017, with more planned at regular intervals throughout the year.
Students at University of Essex Online study entirely online using a virtual learning platform, receiving high-quality resources and support from experienced tutors.
