University of Essex Online celebrates 10-year anniversary

25th Apr 2017

University of Essex Online today announces their 10-year anniversary as a leading online education institution.

Formed as a partnership between the University of Essex and Kaplan Open Learning in 2007, University of Essex Online originally offered just one FdA Business and Management course with an initial cohort of 14 students.

Ten years later, University of Essex Online offers over 25 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in business, law, criminology, health and psychology and has seen more than 1,200 students graduate.

All programmes are still delivered 100% online on a cutting-edge virtual learning environment, with in-house support from dedicated Admissions, Academic, Student Support and Quality teams.

David Dixon, Academic Director and founding member of University of Essex Online, said: “The last 10 years have been both exciting and challenging as we have worked hard to bring the best technology to people with the ambition to improve their careers and self-esteem. Over the years we have worked with academic experts and industry leaders to refine our course delivery and student support to the highest possibly levels within the online education industry. I cannot wait to see what the next 10 years bring.”

The UK higher education scene has changed dramatically over the last 10 years with the increases in student loans and tuition fees, ever-changing education policies and general advancements in learning technology but University of Essex Online continues to provide a high-quality, reputable product to students across the globe.

Nicola Pittman, Managing Director, said: “Student success and student satisfaction has always been at the heart of our product – and over the last five years we have achieved an average score of 92% for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey. Our score places us in the national top 10 for overall student satisfaction out of all English mainstream universities. We’re extremely proud of this result and the success of University of Essex Online.”

Dominic Micklewright, Dean of Partnerships from the University of Essex, said: “It has been extremely exciting and rewarding to work with Kaplan over the years, and to see students benefit from the flexibility of University of Essex Online courses. Students are able to study from anywhere, at their own pace, and alongside peers from all over the world. The courses are career-focused and enable students to develop the skills they need to succeed and advance in their careers. I have been particularly impressed with the way that Kaplan continually strive to better the student experience, and the developments they have made to their learning and teaching platforms based on feedback and learner analytics. Kaplan’s use of technology to deliver high quality courses is exceptional, as is their student support. It has been a pleasure working with Kaplan and I look forward to our continued partnership in the future”.
