The University of Essex Online continues to meet or exceed the sector in the majority of categories in the latest 2024 National Student Survey (NSS) results

The results of the 2024 National Student Survey (NSS) conducted by the Office for Students (OfS) have been released with the University of Essex Online continuing to build on the track record of strong positive feedback from students.

Reflecting on this year’s results, David Dixon, Academic Director, commented:

“At the University of Essex Online the feedback students give us through surveys like the NSS shapes everything we do. It’s great therefore to see that this year’s results continue to see feedback meet or exceed the sector in most categories. And when it comes to important areas like learning opportunities, 9 out of 10 students who responded said their course has developed the skills and knowledge they need for the future.

We pride ourselves on delivering an online learning experience which is truly accessible to a student anywhere in the world. These results underscore this, with respondents overwhelmingly rating the ease of contacting their teaching staff well ahead of the sector average.

Putting students at the heart of what we do means acting on their feedback, and I’m particularly delighted that the NSS survey shows we continue to be ahead of our sector peers in this regard.”

Result highlights

  • 94% of students who responded received their assessment feedback on time, compared to 89% across the sector.
  • 92% of students who responded agreed their course developed the knowledge and skills they need for their future, compared to 90% across the sector.
  • 88% of students who responded agreed it was easy to contact teaching staff when needed, compared to 84% across the sector.
  • Almost 70% of students who responded agreed that their feedback on a course had been acted on, compared to less than 60% across the sector.

How does the NSS work?

The annual National Student Survey is held every year to gain honest student feedback across the UK’s further and higher education sectors. The published results help prospective students make well-informed decisions about which courses to choose and where to study.

We’d like to thank all our University of Essex Online students who took the time to participate in the 2024 National Student Survey (NSS).
