When I found the University of Essex Online, it felt like a door was opening in the right direction.

I chose to study law after taking the time to truly understand my strengths, limits and the kind of impact I want to have in my career. Living with combat PTSD and ADHD, I realised that a traditional academic path wasn’t the right environment for me. The structure, noise and pace of a conventional classroom didn’t allow me to perform at my best. However, that didn’t mean I wasn’t capable; it meant I needed a different way to learn.

The University of Essex Online offers flexibility and allows me to study at my own rhythm, without compromising on academic depth or quality. I can fully commit to assignments and discussions while maintaining balance in my daily life.

Choosing to study LLB (Hons) Law with Psychology wasn’t accidental. I wanted to build a career where logic and empathy come together and where understanding human behaviour is just as essential as understanding legal frameworks. This combination gives me the tools to see both the rules and people behind them and gain a more rounded view.

The highlights of my studies so far have been the discussions that challenge my thinking. Every module feels like a step toward mastering not just knowledge, but discipline and clarity.

What’s more, the Disability Support Team has provided ongoing support during challenging times which gives me the growing sense that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. My long-term goal is to use my education to improve access to rights and make complex systems more humane and transparent. I believe law can and should serve people, especially those who are often excluded by bureaucracy or circumstance.

Studying at the University of Essex Online has given me the structure to grow, the freedom to think and the confidence to build a life that aligns with both purpose and practicality.

The course has its challenges, but I've learnt so much in both my professional and personal life. If it wasn’t for the course and the supportive tutors I've come across, I'd never have applied for my new role.
