A highlight for me has been applying what I’ve learned immediately to my day-to-day duties.

Over the last five years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across many different roles in my career, including IT support, administration and data coordination. Each role highlighted the importance of technology in defining modern organisations and consumer journeys.

In my job, I’ve worked with digital tools that help organisations make smarter decisions. I wanted to learn how to use these technologies, why organisations use them and how technology can enhance strategy, efficiency and customer experience. That’s why applying for the BSc (Hons) Business and Computing felt like a natural next step for me.

I chose the University of Essex Online because it allowed me to study at a reputable UK institution while continuing my professional and personal life here in Mauritius. Our culture is extremely family-oriented and community-driven, so flexibility is essential to me. Knowing I could study at my own pace while being part of a worldwide community inspired me to apply.

Studying online is challenging and empowering. It’s taught me to manage my time and remain consistent even when juggling a hectic schedule. A highlight for me has been applying what I’ve learned immediately to my day-to-day duties – whether that’s understanding business processes, assessing data or thinking more strategically about customer experience. Even though I’m studying from Mauritius, the diversity of perspectives in the online classroom makes the learning experience feel truly global.

I intend to leverage the skills I’ve developed to advance into more technology-focused roles, particularly in CRM, digital operations and business analysis. As technology advances, I want to position myself for jobs that integrate business knowledge with technical problem-solving, whether it’s working with systems and data or supporting digital transformation initiatives.

This degree is more than just learning – I’ve gained confidence, improved my computing skills and feel driven to pursue future opportunities in technology.

I was hesitant and put off doing this for years as I doubted my ability and didn’t feel confident enough but now I wish I had taken the leap years ago.

Once I've completed the course and obtained my degree, I hope to use it to progress into senior leadership roles within the NHS and play a part in making a positive change to healthcare in our country.
