In today’s ever-evolving digital world, keeping information safe is a growing concern. The prominent threat of cyber attacks – such as data breaches, identify theft and phishing schemes – has created a strong demand for cyber security professionals who can protect businesses. That’s why we’ve launched an innovative course that introduces the fundamentals of cyber security and can help you take the first step into this lucrative industry. In this blog, we introduce our latest undergraduate computing course, BSc (Hons) Cyber Security.
Our 100% online, part-time BSc (Hons) Cyber Security is ideal for those looking to make a career change or wanting to gain a formal qualification in computing. This flexible approach to studying for a degree allows you learn alongside your current commitments and personal responsibilities. The first intake for this exciting new course will be October 2025.
What will I study on the BSc (Hons) Cyber Security?
Learn the fundamentals of cyber security, from how to protect sensitive data to preventing financial loss. This course emphasises the importance of risk management in making business decisions, while considering preparation against future cyber attacks and how businesses prioritise security. You’ll also look at algorithms and their role within cyber security, as well as learning how to use popular programming languages such as Python.
A key module is Research and Professional Practice; this will help you develop the key research and project management skills you need to succeed in your future computing career. You’ll also start to build entrepreneurial skills and understanding of research methodologies by engaging in theoretical discussion, practical exercises and real-world case studies.
Towards the end of your studies, you’ll demonstrate the knowledge you’ve gained throughout the course in the Capstone project. By carrying out a comprehensive research report or practical project, you’ll have the opportunity to show off your creativity, as well as academic and professional abilities.
Looking for a shorter course?
The BSc (Hons) Cyber Security has an indicative study duration of four years, but this can be longer or shorter depending on your speed of study and module availability. If you’re looking for a slightly shorter course, we’ve also launched the 16-month CertHE Cyber Security. It’s a respected standalone qualification and can also be used as a stepping stone to progress onto the full Bachelors degree.
