Derek’s words of wisdom for October 2017…

Girl

“I’ve started a module but now something has come up – what are my options?”

Derek

If you’re within the first four weeks of a module, you might be able to withdraw from the module without it counting as an attempt. You can only do this twice though – the third time you start a module, the grade will be presented at the Exam Board. So be sure you are ready to study! Please call your Student Support Adviser to discuss this.

“Can I take a break from my studies?”

Derek

There are usually short breaks between modules of one or two weeks, but Yes, you can also request to go on ‘Leave of Absence’ for up to six months at a time. There are other academic requirements which need to be met however, so please speak to your Student Support Adviser for more info.

“How can I interact with other students?”

Derek

As well as a social ‘student lounge’ within each module you study, there are also several much larger student forums, which all of our online students access. Student Voice is an area to discuss general ideas about studying with University of Essex Online; the Department Forums provide you an area to discuss more subject-specific issues relating to your programme; and the Social Lounge is exactly that – an area for you to chat with fellow students from across all courses, about everything non-academic!
