The virtual learning environment (VLE) is user-friendly, intuitive and well-organised, which is essential given I’m studying from the other side of the globe.
I’ve always had an interest in true crime and growing up in South Africa, crime has been an unavoidable reality of life. The challenges within the South African justice system, while complex, sparked my passion for criminal psychology. I believe the best way to bring about change is to start from within and I saw this degree as the perfect opportunity to equip myself with the knowledge and skills needed to make an impact.
When I began researching online courses, the University of Essex Online quickly emerged as one of the top institutions offering the BSc (Hons) Criminal Psychology. Living in South Africa, there simply weren’t any local options that could compare to what Essex Online had to offer. What drew me to it wasn’t just the reputation of the university, but also the flexibility and independence that studying online offers.
Being able to fit my studies around my commitments, especially since I travel frequently, has been incredibly beneficial. The convenience of studying from anywhere in the world has been a major highlight, allowing me to stay on track with my studies without feeling restricted. Another aspect of Essex Online that I’ve found particularly valuable is the strong support system. My tutors and the Student Support team are very approachable and responsive, and I’ve been impressed with how quickly any issues have been resolved. This experience has made me feel connected and supported, despite the distance.
After completing this degree, I plan to continue my education, further honing my expertise and opening doors for even more opportunities. In the future, I plan to apply what I’ve learned on the course to pursue a career within South Africa’s justice system, with the goal of helping to reform and improve it. Studying at the University of Essex Online has been an incredibly rewarding experience and I’m excited about the path that lies ahead.
