Another year is nearly at an end, so we thought it’d be a great time to look back at what we’ve achieved in 2025. Not only did we successfully launch several new courses, but we also received numerous recognitions!

In this blog post, we reflect on another transformative year and celebrate the progress we’ve made. Keep reading to find out more…

Global graduation ceremonies

Our diverse student community is what makes studying online so special and this year was no different. April 2025 marked a major milestone for over 200 students from 84 countries, as they gathered in person at the University of Essex’s scenic Colchester campus for our spring graduation ceremony.

And in the summer, our class of 2025 students had the opportunity to celebrate their experiences at the University of Essex Online’s summer graduation ceremony. Over 300 students and 600 guests travelled to attend the ceremony at the Colchester campus. This was a special occasion with awards presented during the reception and students had the opportunity enjoy some refreshments and capture lots of memorable photos too.

A year of academic excellence

We were thrilled to achieve excellence for teaching, organisation and management, and learning opportunities in the 2025 National Student Survey (NSS). This survey reflects real student opinions about their higher education courses and we were delighted with the results.

The Complete University Guide sets out league tables that rank the best universities in the UK, overall and across 74 subject areas. The University of Essex is ranked 29 for 2026, which highlights our commitment to academic excellence and student experience.

Finally, the University of Essex has been ranked #12 in The Guardian University Guide rankings for 2026! This is the university’s highest ever position, marking us as second in the East of England and ahead of many Russell Group universities.

We’re so proud to share these achievements and we look forward to another year of success in 2026. As you reflect on your own achievements this year, have you considered what’s next for you? Whatever you decide, we’re here to help turn your ambition into action.
