Extend your knowledge of data management with our informative online professional course. 

Within 13 weeks, you’ll develop the skills needed to evaluate and apply the methodologies, tools and techniques used in data collection. You’ll also consider the theories underpinning data and knowledge management – while looking at how common programming languages and databases help with data collection and analysis.  

You’ll cover a range of interesting topics, including: 

  • data types, their collection and processes involved in the data pipeline 
  • various forms of databases and their management 
  • current and future challenges, limitations and opportunities in data management

  • detailed understanding of data management pipeline – cleaning, transformation, normalisation, integration and storage 
  • working with unstructured and structured data and different file formats  
  • accessing and querying datasets with python programming language 
  • database modelling: entity-relationship model and the relational model 
  • relational (PostgreSQL) and non-relational (NoSQL/MongoDB) database systems 
  • comparing common database systems – concurrency and performance issues in databases, transaction management 
  • accessing and querying the database with SQL statements – basic queries

Study duration 

Our Data Management, Modelling and Design online professional course has a study duration of 13 weeks, including a one-week induction to help you settle into online study.

Alternatively, you could progress on to a PG Cert Business and Management (Business Analytics) (60 credits); PG Dip Business and Management (Business Analytics)(120 credits) or the full MSc Business and Management (Business Analytics) (180 credits).   

Please note, acceptance on to a postgraduate qualification is subject to meeting the entry requirements of your chosen programme. 

No formal qualifications or experience is necessary.  

As our courses are delivered in English, a high proficiency of English is required. If English isn’t your first language, your ability should be equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5. Don’t worry if you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification – we offer a free online English test to assess your proficiency.  

You don’t need to prove your English ability if you’re a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, any of these countries.
