Studying at the University of Essex Online has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my academic and professional journey.
As a director working in the education sector in the United Arab Emirates, I’ve always believed leadership is a continuous journey of learning and development. Choosing to pursue my postgraduate studies while managing my professional responsibilities was an important personal challenge, but it was also a decision that I’m truly proud of.
One of the greatest advantages of studying with the University of Essex Online was the flexibility it offered. Balancing a demanding leadership role, family commitments and academic responsibilities wasn’t always easy, but the online learning environment allowed me to continue developing myself without stepping away from my career.
What made the experience particularly valuable was the opportunity to connect academic knowledge with real-world leadership challenges. Throughout my studies, I was able to reflect on my leadership style, explore new approaches to organisational development and apply what I learned to my professional environment.
A major highlight of my journey was completing my dissertation, which focused on preparing second-line leaders within the Sharjah Private Education Authority. This research was especially meaningful to me because it addressed a subject directly connected to my professional responsibilities and my passion for developing future leaders.
The academic support and guidance I received throughout the course also played an important role in my experience. I appreciated the opportunity to think critically, challenge my own perspectives and develop a deeper understanding of leadership and management.
Beyond gaining an academic qualification, this journey strengthened my confidence, discipline and ability to approach challenges from different perspectives. It reminded me that learning isn’t simply about acquiring knowledge but about using that knowledge to make a positive difference.
My advice to anyone considering studying with the University of Essex Online is simple: don’t wait for the perfect time to invest in yourself. There’ll always be professional and personal commitments, but with determination, commitment and the right learning environment, achieving your academic goals is possible.
I’m grateful to the University of Essex Online for being part of this important chapter in my life. For me, education isn’t just about earning a degree; it’s about becoming a better leader and empowering others.
