I chose Essex Online not just for its convenience, but for the course structure, flexibility and student feedback that stood out.

I grew up on a council estate with parents who struggled severely with their mental health. So, from an early age, I learnt how to navigate challenges, adapt and push forward. Education wasn’t always a given, but I knew knowledge could open doors, so I prioritised it.

I’ve always been curious about business, people and what makes things work. With a few years of marketing experience, I knew I had gaps in strategy and the business environment. I wanted to expand my knowledge and I knew the University of Essex Online could help me fulfil my goals.

The Student Support team has been invaluable, providing guidance when I need it most. They helped to set up a reasonable adjustment plan due to my dyslexia diagnosis, making a real difference in how I manage my studies. During COVID-19, my mental health took a turn and I had to take a step back. With their support, I was able to pause my studies to focus on my wellbeing.

Through all this, my studies have given me career clarity. What started as a way to deepen my business knowledge has led to unexpected opportunities. I went from a Marketing Assistant role to a Marketing Manager and I’m currently working on my own business while being offered a partnership with my current employer.

Studying online has allowed me to grow professionally while being present for my family despite my busy schedule. I always make time for them, whether it’s exploring nature, going on long walks, or just having fun together.

I’ve worked across various industries, from construction firms to charities and marketing agencies. My goal is to continue expanding my expertise and to build a sustainable future through projects that benefit people and the environment in a meaningful way.

I’d say to any non-UK student that’s worried they will feel like an outsider – fear not! Not only are UK-based students incredibly welcoming, but there are also so many other international students.
