We are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest postgraduate course: MSc Organisational Psychology.
Our psychology department has a track record of delivering excellent courses entirely online and part-time. We offer an accredited BSc (Hons) Psychology, one of the few 100% online programmes accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) – as well as combined BSc programmes in Business Psychology and Criminal Psychology. And at postgraduate level, we run an MSc Psychology, for individuals that may not have studied the discipline before.
Our new MSc Organisational Psychology is an applied specialist programme that we’ve designed specifically for those of you interested in studying the complementary fields of psychology and business.
What will I study on the MSc Organisational Psychology?
You will discover key psychological theories and approaches within workplace settings, whilst developing your research skills and employability. You will contextualise your learning through real-world topics such as the:
- concept of psychological assessment at work and how to conduct this process
- strategic human resource development within a global context
- main qualitative and quantitative research methods used for data collection and analysis
The syllabus includes modules focused on building research skills, particularly through the Applied Research Methods module and live workshops, whereby you will gain a foundational understanding of research methods and statistics. You will also be encouraged to build a skills portfolio and develop skills that are beneficial for a variety of careers.
Towards the end of your studies, you will have learned how to improve organisational structures and efficiency, as well as how to assess job performance and effectively motivate employees. You will put your knowledge and skills to use by conducting an independent research project into an area of organisational psychology that interests you.
Where can the course take me?
Organisational psychologists are increasingly in demand as businesses are turning to psychology to motivate their employees, recruit staff, understand markets and change institutional behaviour.
On completion of your studies, you will be equipped to succeed in roles within human resources, employee training and organisational development. Your skillset will also be transferable to related disciplines such as management, marketing and sales and management.
You could also pursue a career within academia and research, and progress to a PhD or professional doctorate in a related field.
Looking for a shorter course?
The indicative study duration of our MSc Organisational Psychology is 2 years. If you’re looking for a course which is a bit shorter, we’re also launching a PG Dip Organisational Psychology and a PG Cert Organisational Psychology, which have an indicative study duration of 16 months and 8 months respectively. Both of these shorter courses are respected standalone qualifications in their own right, and they can also be used as a stepping stone towards the full Masters degree.
What’s studying online like?
Our MSc Organisational Psychology, like our other programmes, is delivered 100% online and part-time. You will access your studies via our state-of-the-art virtual learning environment (VLE), which includes multimedia lecturecasts, an eLibrary, discussion forums and the portal for you to submit your assignments (there are no exams!).
Additionally, throughout your studies you will be supported by our dedicated Student Support team, and you will receive subject-specific support from your module tutors through live workshops and virtual office hours.
What are the entry requirements?
We offer two different entry routes, as we know people from a wide range of backgrounds would succeed on our courses.
The requirement for our academic entry route is an undergraduate degree from an approved institution equivalent to a UK Honours degree or a relevant qualification.
For those with non-traditional academic backgrounds we offer a work experience entry route. The requirement for this route is at least three years’ work experience within a relevant field, which may include one in marketing and sales, human resources, employee training and management.
Furthermore, you will need to meet our minimum English language requirements, equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5. Don’t worry if you don’t have IELTS – you will just need to complete our free English test to prove your proficiency.
