Business is our biggest subject, with hundreds of current business students from over 100 different countries, and twenty-five different courses to choose from. Undergraduate, postgraduate, short course, marketing, management, finance, HR, project management… the options are endless!

But with so many choices to pick from, how do you know which of our many different courses you should be studying? Today we’re cutting away the confusion and making sure you get enrolled on a course that is right for you.

Postgraduate vs undergraduate

We’ve recently covered the difference between our Bachelors and Masters degrees in another blog post – and it’s not that you need to already have an undergraduate degree to do a postgraduate course!

It’s true that if you already have an undergraduate degree, a postgraduate course is likely to be more suitable for you, but it also has a lot to do with your experience level. If you’ve been working in a managerial role for several years, you may have enough experience to start a postgraduate degree, even if you have no prior university education.

For our undergraduate degrees, you might think that you need A-levels, but that isn’t the case if you have at least 3 years’ experience in a relevant role, plus GCSE Maths and English (grade A-C). And if you don’t have these, you can still start our CertHE Business and Management, which has no entry requirements other than English language requirements.

The options for courses at the postgraduate level are much wider, and the courses themselves are more specialised. So if you are experienced in your field and wish to gain deeper knowledge about a particular aspect of business, it’s likely a postgraduate degree will be more suited to you. If you are early in your career and looking for a way to get a leg up, take a look at our undergraduate courses.

What about short courses?

If you’re not sure about entering the field, a short course in Business and Management can give you a respected qualification in just 16 months. Our CertHE is also ideal if you don’t meet the entry requirements for our Bachelors degrees, as we offer an Open Entry Route onto this course.

We also offer short courses at the postgraduate level, which are ideal if you’re not sure how much time you want to spend studying. We offer PG Certs and PG Dips with an indicative study duration of 8 months and 16 months respectively, which are well-regarded qualifications in their own right and can also be used as a stepping stone to a full Masters.

Undergraduate business pathways

If you feel that you are suited to a Bachelors degree, the decisions don’t stop there! We have two different undergraduate business degrees – BA (Hons) Business and Management or BA (Hons) Business and Marketing.

Both courses cover some of the same topics, including project management, business strategy and human resources management. They also contain specialist modules, such as Consumer Behaviour (marketing) and Financial Decision Making (management).

If you’re unsure which course is right for you, take a look at this blog post that focuses on the differences between the two options.

Postgraduate business options

At postgraduate level, it’s a little more complicated: we offer eight different Masters degrees in a range of general and specialist business topics.

The easiest way to choose between these options is to look at your career goals. If you know you want a career in a specific field, consider a specialist degree in digital marketing, human resource management, business analytics, finance, supply chain management or project management. On the other hand, if you would like to increase your abilities across a wider range of business topics, our Master of Business Management (MBM) might be the right choice.

Finally, you don’t need to commit to a full degree straight away! We offer PG Certs and PG Dips with an indicative study duration of 8 months and 16 months respectively, which are well-regarded qualifications in their own right and can also be used as a stepping stone to a full Masters.
