Our 100% online, part-time LLB (Hons) Law opens doors to various career paths both within the legal sector and beyond. This versatile degree could lead to legal positions such as solicitor, barrister, legal adviser or paralegal. On the other hand, you may choose to transfer these legal skills to alternative careers in banking and finance, management, education and many other sectors. In this blog post, we explore the various industries and roles you can pursue with a law degree.

What will I learn on the LLB (Hons) Law?

Our undergraduate law degree delves into the English legal system and covers a wide range of related topics. You’ll gain a solid understanding of EU law and the roles and functions of its institutions, as well as criminal law, burden of proof and proposal for reform. You’ll also take a look at the Human Rights Act and the European Convention on Human Rights.

Throughout the course, you’ll develop core professional skills such as, legal research, academic referencing, legal writing, presenting and client interviewing. What’s more, you’ll be equipped with a wide range of transferable workplace skills, from problem-solving and conflict resolution to communication and attention to detail.

Align your studies to your future role with our specialist optional modules. Whether you’d like to work in the legal sector, business and management, human resources or the medical field, we’ve got a module that will provide greater insight into the law relevant to your chosen industry.

How can an LLB (Hons) Law shape my chosen career?

Management

Leverage your skills in analytics and problem-solving – as well as your understanding of regulations and risk – to pursue a career in legal management, compliance management or management consultancy. Key responsibilities of a consultant include researching organisations and their structure and giving advice to improve business performance.

Banking and finance

Use your expertise in equity and debt finance, profit distribution and the complexities of business taxation for a lucrative career in banking. A strong grasp of regulations, combined with the skills from your LLB (Hons) Law, makes you a great fit for compliance, investment or financial analysis roles. Your legal background offers a unique edge in navigating regulations and contributing to financial strategies.

Human resources (HR)

With a solid foundation in employment law, you’ll be well-equipped for positions in HR. You could help to ensure legal compliance, manage employee relations and handle disputes. Not only that, but you could also construct and improve workplace policies – covering equal opportunities, fair wages, safety, data protection, anti-discrimination and much more.

Education

Share your knowledge and shape the minds of future lawyers with a rewarding career in education. You could become a teacher or lecturer, or choose to work within the business function of an education provider. As a law graduate, you could also pursue roles within administration or educational policy. Enhancing your qualifications with a postgraduate law degree or a teaching degree can boost your opportunities in the education sector.

Voluntary sector

Use your legal skills for good within legal advice centres, human rights organisations, environmental law groups or charities needing legal support. Many charities require legal support but can’t afford a full-time lawyer, so it’s a chance to make a real difference and gain valuable experience while volunteering to help those in need.

There are a wide range of legal professions which demand the advanced skillset and knowledge developed during our undergraduate law degree – such as paralegal, conveyancer, company secretary, legal executive or law enforcement. And with dedication, further training and work experience, you could also pursue an exciting career as a solicitor or barrister

Our LLB (Hons) Law is a qualifying law degree (QLD), recognised by the Solicitors Regulations Authority (SRA) – preparing you in part for the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) or to progress onto the Bar Practice Course. Stay up to date with any changes by visiting the Solicitors Regulation Authority or the Bar Standards Board
