As the UK’s longest-running provider of 100% online higher education courses, we know a thing or two about delivering accessible student experiences.

Opting to study online means added flexibility and new ways to participate with peers and tutors. What’s more, we were recently ranked Gold in the Times Higher Education (THE) Online Learning Rankings 2024.

Read on to learn how our 100% online, part-time courses champion inclusivity.

Practical entry routes for all backgrounds

Entry requirements have become more diverse over time and we’re proud to have a student community of all ages, nationalities and abilities. Our undergraduate and postgraduate courses also have a work experience route, so there’s no need to follow a traditional path to get a degree. Don’t have any academic qualifications or relevant work experience? We offer an open entry route onto our CertHE courses, where you’ll just need to pass the first assignment to get started.

Student support aligned with diverse needs

Upon application, you’ll be assigned a dedicated admissions adviserwhich means there’s no explaining yourself repeatedly over the phone! Following your induction, our Student Support team is on hand to make sure you have everything you need to succeed. From ensuring youre catered for with disability support, to responding to ad-hoc queries about assignments, you’ll be able to contact them at any point throughout your journey.

“Students can disclose their disability at any point, so I’d encourage anyone who thinks they may benefit from this support to reach out. You don’t need to struggle alone!”

An inclusive learning environment

Attending a university course according to a schedule doesn’t work well for everyone. That’s why our virtual learning environment (VLE) is available at any time, on any device and from anywhere in the world. Online learning also means making the most of accessibility tools, from screen readers to adjustable visual software. We understand everyone has different needsso whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, you’ll be able to complete your studies at a time and place that comfortably suits you.

Degrees awarded by a top UK university

Studying 100% online means you can reduce your carbon footprint, be environmentally friendly and save money. Just because you’re not attending university inperson, doesn’t mean you can’t graduate from a top institution. All University of Essex Online degrees are awarded and validated by the University of Essex, which is one of the top 25 universities in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2025). And on completion, you can enjoy a graduation ceremony held on the beautiful Colchester campus.
