A year ago, I was a full-time professional with a long-held passion for computer science, but no clear path to a degree.

Today, I’m a thriving first-year BSc (Hons) Computer Science student with the University of Essex Online and I wouldn’t change a thing. The challenge of balancing a demanding job with studying was my biggest concern, but the structure and support have made it truly enjoyable!

The university’s excellent reputation heavily influenced my decision to enrol, as I wanted to ensure my degree would be highly respected. The University of Essex Online also offered the exact course I wanted in a shorter timeframe than many other part-time options, making it a practical choice as well.

Since starting, the support’s been unwavering. My tutors have been exceptional, providing clear and timely feedback that’s directly contributed to the excellent grades I’ve achieved. The Student Support team is a testament to the university’s commitment to its students. They’re always ready to point me in the right direction and if they don’t know an answer, they find it. I was particularly impressed when an adviser personally investigated a complex question and emailed me a detailed response the very next day. It’s this reliable and proactive support that makes all the difference.

This journey has already armed me with a wealth of new skills, including computer programming and research. After completing my computer science degree, I can say with 100% certainty that I’ll be continuing my studies right here at the University of Essex Online, hopefully with an MSc Data Science. They’ve earned my trust and loyalty completely.

At the time of starting the BA, I was 18 years old, and in my last year of college. It would have been really tough to access a campus-based university over an online study option.

I joined the Army at sixteen years old having only taken the three GCSEs that I needed for my chosen trade. I am currently a Sergeant within the Royal Signals.
